PHP crashing IIS 5.1 on WinXP

I followed the instructions, doublechecked my installation and configuration 3 times. anytime I try to access a PHP script from my server, IIS crashes if I try to use the ISAPI module. does anyone have any idea what could cause this or have I just overlooked something?
