form variables not passed if enctype="multipart/form-data"

I am wondering if anyone else has run into this problem on 4.1.2... I have a Form passing variables to a new php page which works great until you add the: enctype="multipart/form-data" required to upload an image. As soon as that part is added, there is no variable value no the following page. URL and Server variables can still be displayed, just no form variable values. I have tried trimming the form value before displaying, tried showing the value in every way I can think (http_post, post and just plan $formFieldname). Anyone have any ideas for me?
