Problem with exec()

Hi, I am running php3 in WINNT and have a command in php3 like: exec("dir c:\",$arr,$ret); But it does not put anything in $arr. The exec is working because if I put: exec("dir c:\ > c:\test.txt",$arr,$ret); The file c:\test.txt is created correctly. Any ideas?
