Aaargggh. Date Fields ! Help !

I'm a (very) newbie at PHP. At the moment, I'm wanting to store a date in
mySql database, and retrieve & display said date.
I've created a column of type datetime, and stored a value in it. When
displaying the field, I get
"2000-08-29 13:10:07".
How do I change the format to display "Tuesday 08 August, 2000 13:10:07"
instead ?
