filemtime

When I use filemtime under NT4, I get this results:
1) if the php file that reads the "last modified" property is in the same
directory of files being read, everything is OK.
2) if the php file is in another directory (or folder, as you wish), I get
always the timestamp for "January 1st, 1:00 AM" (I'm writing the american
format, but on my website is an italian date).
Why?
