Well,
First: You do not tell us the error that you receive from the server?..
Second: Per the questions that you are asking, it seems that you have not
understood yet the way PHP is installed: Is it as an Apache module or as a
CGI? (Probably better if you start with CGI...) Read and understand the
PHP.ini file that should give you the answer to most of your questions.
Q3: From DOS prompt >PHP phpscriptpath/yourscript.php
Finally Read Julie Meloni's PHP4 installation with Apache on win32:
http://www.thickbook.com/extra/php_apachephp4_win.phtml
If it still not working, last but not least: Install PHP automatically, see
John Lim's:
http://php.weblogs.com/easywindows
Close your eyes cross your fingers and pray, or you can also dance, sing,
and read the complete PHP manual http://www.php.net/manual/
you never know,
this can help in the future ;)
Cheers!

This is a message i sent to php-install but have gotten no response.
Since i found this group I though it better to try here.
tia .. dsig
PLEASE ..
Okay .. httpd server is working well (all test scripts return correct
information.
SO .. How can i test the php installation. I have installed based on
the site http://www.php.net/distributions/bigmanual.html#installation
sub section Installation on Windows 95/98/NT systems.
There is a link to http://www.umesd.k12.or.us/php/win32install.html
.
I have followed those instructions 'to the bone'.
Then when i create a test page as follows:
test1.php
<html>
<?php
phpinfo();
?>
</html>
Loading this page through my server brings up a standard error page.
This behavior is the same on win98 and win2k.
1. what is best method of installation on win2k and win98
2. do i have to put the dll's in the the f:\winnt\system32 and
c:\windows\system directories? or per doc above can i just point to
them?
3. when php is installed is there any way to test the configuration
from a 'dos box'.
thanks
