You might wanna check the freetype package, it should be able to work with
ttf's.

Hi,
Does anyone know to use Windows TrueType fonts on a Linux box?
The manual doesn't much about this, except in ImageLoadFont where "...the
font file must be compiled on the same type of CPU..."
What's the process?
