You can also try substituting 127.0.0.1 for localhost.

After unpacking Apache (1.3.12, I suppose) on Win95 all you have to configure is in the httpd.conf, the ServerName directive, which is commented. After uncommenting it and writing "localhost" or your name of choice, Apache should fire up. Now, the kind of error seems more like IE5 or DUN config error: IE seems to be trying to use RAS forcefully, and if you don't dial you won't be able to browse your own server. To check if apache is up and going, try this: telnet localhost:80, press any key and ENTER. Apache should answer with a lot of handshake text and disconnect. Try Control Panel, Internet options, somewhere around "Connection", an option that will allow you to use internet without RAS. You could also try some other browser... Gonzalo. I'm trying to run PHP and Apache on W95 for testing purposes. I can start Apache. If I enter "localhost" in IE5 I get error "cannot connect to this site while offline". It keeps trying to connect. I can't get past this problem to see if everything else works. Would appreciate any help or suggestions.
