My guess is that for some reason, 'MSCOMCTL.OCX' has not been installed or
setup correctly (I suspect that this should happed when the OS is
installed).
This file provides common controls such as progress bars, tab strips etc.
The PHP installer uses the tree viewer control provided by MSCOMCTL.OCX when
configuring IIS in order to present a view of the nodes in the IIS structure
where script maps are set in order for you to decide which places in the
structure you want php to work.
I don't know how to get the OCX control working, but I do know that if the
installer has got as far as copying all the files onto your machine, then
all you need to do is manually configure IIS in the management console by
set script mappings for .php (and whatever other extensions you fancy) to
C:\PHP\php.exe (or wherever you've put the exe).
Cheers
