Check the HTML Source on the www.tucows.com download pages. I think what
they
do is use Javascript to pop open a download stream on the "thanks for
downloading"
page's OnLoad property.

Subject: [PHP-WIN] download file options
I'm trying to come up with one single, consistent way of handling this so
everybody has the same experience (rather than the often unpredicatable
variations you get with links described above). Ideally, I'd like to
implement
something similar to what ZD Net provides on their library downloads:
there's a
DOWNLOAD button you click, and then you get a page (with some meaningless
drivel
on it) and a note somewhere that says, "If the file doesn't start
downloading
relatively soon, click _here_ to try again".
All the books I've seen discuss uploading files, but not stuff like this.
I'd
appreciate any light you could shed on it!
Finally, slightly unrelated, how would I get the download button to open a
new
browser page rather than replace the current one (ie., another instance of
the
browser)?
Thanks
