launching apps from PHP via COM

Hi
Does anyone know how I can launch an app via COM and PREVENT it from
terminating when the PHP script terminates?
I've got this:
<?php
$ins = new COM("word.application");
?>
But the program (Word) terminates when the script ends. How can I launch
APPS from PHP?
