There is a general issue with IIS (and maybe other web servers) that if an
error occurs in a cgi executable or an ISAPI module, there is often no way
for that error to 'escape' to the outside world. Instead, all the user gets
to know is that a 500 - Internal server error occurred.
Luckily, with php, we can run the executable on the command line, where we
will get to see any error messages, and then we can go about fixing them.
At the command line, if you CD to the directory containing php.exe and then
type php -q -i, you will get the output of phpinfo() on screen (a long
stream of html) and then php will exit.
From what you said, I suspect that you will see an error message at the end
of the phpinfo output, but if not, scroll up and check out the beginning
(you may have to configure your command window to have a decent height in
the layout tab of it's properties dialogue box - mine is set to 5000).
The odds are that the error message you get will be trivial - a bad php.ini
setting or some module not found - that kind of thing.
Cheers
