How to do db-logic without C/S DB (such as MySQL)

I have access to host PHP scripts for free on a site but doesnt have access
to MySQL or other C/S DB. Has anyone released some code (or have I
overlooked something) that allows one to store indexed files with inserts,
updates etc.
