As I'm sure you are aware, Windows has no security built in, but what it does have is a host of ways of setting permissions on files, none of which are compatible with each other! In Windows Explorer, right click on the file, go to properties and make sure that the 'read only' check box is clear. From a command prompt, type 'attrib filename'. If there is an R in the result, then it is DOS read only - to switch this off type 'attrib -r filename' You may also have some network type properties set wrong - right click on your Network Neighbourhood icon and select properties. From here, check through the security options for any clients you have installed and see what write permissions are assigned.
