In order to use MySQL with ODBC, you will have to load a program called MyODBC, which will work, but it will be a lot slower. If you do it that way, you will have PHP talking to ODBC which talks to MyODBC which talks to MySQL, and in addition to the fact that ODBC is comparatively slow, larger will request will potentially take longer (still less time than Access in all likelyhood). If you switch to using the MySQL functions, you will make some additional MySQL specific functions available, and get the most speed you can get out of PHP/MySQL, but of course that would require rewriting the code. One option you have is to migrate the pages one at a time when you feel like it, because the same data would be available to both. One other advantage once it is migrated is that you would be able to move the hosting to almost any platform that supports PHP/MySQL and it should work. Hi everybody! I'm (finally) switching from using PHP with MS Access to MySQL. The issue here is that all my scripts are coded for ODBC. I understand it is possible to use MySQL under Win using ODBC, so no coding needs to be changed. Are there any advantages of using straight MySQL functions instead of keeping my actual ODBC scripts? Info: Apache 1.3.12, PHP 4.0.2, Win 95b, Access 95 (not for long). Thanks a lot! Gonzalo.
