Excuse my ignorance, but how does installing PHP4 cause these problems? The system functions correctly without PHP4 installed. It seems that there is an active bug report for this on http://bugs.php.net It has been suggested that for now, I should fall back to PHP3. I think thats what I'll do. Thanks for the suggestions. The help is appreciated.
