Try
<?php echo HTTP_SERVER_VARS['REMOTE_ADDR']; ?>
also try
<?php echo phpinfo(); ?>
It will tell you all the vars available, and you can
see if register_globals is turned off (which is why
you need to use HTTP_SERVER_VARS[])
