I like the idea, but don't have an idea, how this could be done in an
efficient manner for DOM-based (which also means XPath) stuff, without
introducing too many slowing down layers.
But what looks quite interesting is:
http://xmlsoft.org/xmlreader.html
On top of that, it should be quite easy to introduce some kind of
XML-"stream" PHPAPI. AFAIK, it's only for reading XML documents (hence
the name..:) ), but to come up with something similar for writing could
be done as well (or checking C# docu how they do it.)
For DOM-based things, we could certainly expose some of the libxml2
based dom-API as PHPAPI, but if this makes a lot of sense... mmmh, can't
judge that right now. It's more of a question, if it's useful for other
extensions if they would use this PHPAPI instead of directly using the
libxml2 API (I don't think, it's feasible to use an own
tree-implementation instead of the one provided by libxml2, but maybe
i'm just narrow minded ;) )
