I tried this on a box with only the static libmysqlclient library
available and got this:
*** Warning: This library needs some functionality provided by -lmysqlclient.
*** I have the capability to make that library automatically link in when
*** you link to this library. But I can only do this if you have a
*** shared version of the library, which you do not appear to have.
*** The inter-library dependencies that have been dropped here will be
*** automatically added whenever a program is linked with this library
*** or is declared to -dlopen it.
The final link line was:
/bin/sh ./libtool --silent --mode=link gcc -O2 -g -o libphp4.la -rpath
/home/rasmus/php-4.0b3/libs -avoid-version -R /usr/local/mysql/lib
main.lo internal_functions.lo snprintf.lo php3_sprintf.lo
configuration-parser.lo configuration-scanner.lo request_info.lo
safe_mode.lo fopen-wrappers.lo php3_realpath.lo alloca.lo php_ini.lo
SAPI.lo rfc1867.lo dlist.lo php_content_types.lo strlcpy.lo strlcat.lo
mergesort.lo libzend/libzend.la sapi/apache/libphpsapi_apache.la
regex/libregex.la ext/apache/libphpext_apache.la ext/db/libphpext_db.la
ext/gd/libphpext_gd.la ext/mysql/libphpext_mysql.la
ext/odbc/libphpext_odbc.la ext/pcre/libphpext_pcre.la
ext/session/libphpext_session.la ext/standard/libphpext_standard.la
ext/xml/libphpext_xml.la -ldl -lgd -lm -lresolv -lnsl -lcrypt -lgdbm
-lttf -L/usr/local/mysql/lib -lmysqlclient -ldb2 -lpam
And /usr/local/mysql/lib/libmysqlclient.a exists but it isn't being
statically linked almost as if we call AC_DISABLE_STATIC somewhere, but I
don't see it.
I haven't noticed this before because I have a libmysqlclient.so on my dev
box.
