Depends whether your mysql client libs are linked with it or not. Do you have libz.a / libz.so anywhere in your system? If I just ./configure --with-apache=../apache_1.3.26 --with-mysql it works fine. I do have /usr/local/mysql symlinked to /export/mysql, but I would prefer to have it compile from the correct mysql location. This fails with "Cannot find header files under /export", as I would expect. I don't know what libz.so would have to do with my MySQL path.
