Bug Type: Compile Failure
Operating System: Solaris 8
PHP Version: 4.2.1
New Comment:
That configure seems to work. Thanks!
I was being a little bit incomplete - to get
configure to work right, I do have to prefix it
with "CC=gcc ./configure ...". I heard that was
fixed in CVS but I haven't tried. I don't know if
that would make any difference for this.
Thanks Again!

Try this configure line:
./configure --with-apache=../apache_1.3.26 --with-mysql=/export/mysql
--with-zlib=/usr/local

I have:
/usr/lib/libz.so.1 -> /usr/local/lib/libz.so.1
/usr/local/lib/libz.a
/usr/local/lib/libz.so -> libz.so.1.1.4
/usr/local/lib/libz.so.1 -> libz.so.1.1.4
/usr/local/lib/libz.so.1.1.4
I believe the most updated zlib was installed
from the sunfreeware package. The MySQL 3.23.51
Solaris 2.8 binaries were installed per their
instructions, and MySQL seems to work fine by
itself.
Let me know if you need any other information!
Thanks,
-Matt

libz is sometimes needed with mysql. Depends whether
your mysql client libs are linked with it or not.
Do you have libz.a / libz.so anywhere in your system?
And if so, where?

that's "libz.so" not "liz.so" in the first part -- sorry

[2002-06-28 00:43:28] matt8192@yahoo.com
When I do a PHP
./configure --with-apache=../apache_1.3.26 --with-mysql=/export/mysql
I get a debug.log with a failure to locate liz.so and it fails to
compile, yielding the same error message.
If I just
./configure --with-apache=../apache_1.3.26 --with-mysql
it works fine.
I do have /usr/local/mysql symlinked to /export/mysql, but I would
prefer to have it compile from the correct mysql location.
Here is the debug.log produced when I specify the path in the first
example:
---- debug.log
CONFIGURE: './configure' '--with-apache=../apache_1.3.26'
'--with-mysql=/export/mysql'
CC: gcc
CFLAGS: -g -O2
CPPFLAGS: -D_POSIX_PTHREAD_SEMANTICS
CXX:
CXXFLAGS:
INCLUDES: -I/usr/share/src/apache_1.3.26/src/include
-I/usr/share/src/apache_1.3.26/src/os/unix -I$(top_builddir)/Zend
-I/export/mysql/include
LDFLAGS: -R/usr/ucblib -L/usr/ucblib -R/export/mysql/lib
-L/export/mysql/lib
LIBS: -lmysqlclient -lz -lcrypt -lresolv -lresolv -lresolv -lm
-ldl -lnsl -lsocket -lsocket -lcrypt
DLIBS:
SAPI: apache
PHP_RPATHS: /usr/ucblib /export/mysql/lib
uname -a: SunOS maximus 5.8 Generic_108528-15 sun4u sparc
SUNW,Ultra-60
gcc -o conftest -g -O2 -D_POSIX_PTHREAD_SEMANTICS -R/usr/ucblib
-L/usr/ucblib -R/export/mysql/lib -L/export/mysql/lib conftest.c
-lmysqlclient -lz -lcrypt -lresolv -lresolv -lresolv -lm -ldl -lnsl
-lsocket -lsocket -lcrypt 1>&5
ld.so.1: ./conftest: fatal: libz.so: open failed: No such file or
directory
---- end debug.log
I have also just tried specifying "--with-mysql=/export" since the
INSTALL document uses the example of "/usr/local" vs "/usr/local/mysql"
in the --with-mysql path. This fails with "Cannot find header files
under /export", as I would expect.
I don't know what libz.so would have to do with my MySQL path.
Thanks!
