This bug has been fixed in SVN.
Snapshots of the sources are packaged every three hours; this change
will be in the next snapshot. You can grab the snapshot at
http://snaps.php.net/.

This is a mysqlnd build, with libmysql I see the error message. This
will be further investigated.

Uwe, please notice my comment: It _works_ with PHP 5.2.x but NOT with
5.3, ergo, there's a bug in _PHP_ mysql stuff..
