The bug is from 1999! I thought it was pretty funny to get something on
it now, I can only assume you're clearing out old unresolved bug
reports.... :-)

We are sorry, but can not support PHP 3 related problems anymore.
Momentum is gathering for PHP 5, and we think supporting PHP 3 will
lead to a waste of resources which we want to put into getting PHP 5
ready. Ofcourse PHP 4 will will continue to be supported for the
forseeable future.
works in php4

$forwards=sprintf("%s%c%s", "bob@", 0, "bill@somehost.dom");
$forward[]=$forwards;
$debug=fopen("/tmp/output", "w");
fwrite ($debug, implode("", $forward), 255);
print "Hello";
Produces the output:
bob@<00><string of bytes from memory>
