maybe i'm being dumb here -- but it would seem to me like the job of the release master to manage releases, right?You're not being dumb, but you did miss the point of what a 'Release Master' is. It's not a job title. For the duration of a release cycle for a given version, someone is appointed (by concensus, or discussion, on php-dev) to be responsible for this particular release. This mainly covers when to publish RC's, and which patches from HEAD should be imported to the branch. Zeev
