If it didn't there would be > absolutely no point in having it. not true. try configure --with-gd=path-to-some-ver-of-gd then configure --with-gd=path-to-different-ver-of-gd if config.cache is there configure will not properly detect settings [it will load previous config] anyway i think that adding it to make clean is the best way b.
