I can't see how a browser could open serial ports and whatnot, but if I were in this position, what I would do is: 1) Write a small program in C or Visual Basic (or get someone else to do it). That program would be the main "client" that receives the sales data. You could send it to that file in HTML format. That little executable would either have to "grab" it from your server, or would be launched by PHP's exec command with the HTML passed to it. That executed program writes the HTML to a file and launches it in the viewers browser. Then the program sends the report to the printer, and then creates a connection to a serial port and executes the necessary comand(s) to open the drawer. I dont know for sure if this's actually possible, or if it even makes sense! But thats how I would attempt it. Being that this's on Linux, there's probably a script that can be written to do this, instead of compiling someting in C or VB (I've never used Linux) =) Samios wrote: > I am developing a point-of-sale (intranet) application with a browser front > end. > The server is running Linux/Apache/mySQL/PHP. > The client browser is Mozilla 0.9.4, but I could change this if required. > > I need to print the current browser page as each sale is finished. > Is there a way to print the page without getting the browser's Print Dialog > box to pop up? > The Javascript I've seen still seems to open the Print Dialog box. > I've considered using a mySQL enabled report writer. > Just pass the variables and generate a report - like Crystal reports. > Unfortunately, I have not found a suitable tool for Linux. > > Once the report is printed, the system has to open a cash register draw. > This is done by sending a signal to the serial port. > Can a browser send this signal - eg by Javascript? > > Any help would be greatly appreciated. > > -- > PHP Database Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) > To unsubscribe, e-mail: php-db-unsubscribe@lists.php.net > For additional commands, e-mail: php-db-help@lists.php.net > To contact the list administrators, e-mail: php-list-admin@lists.php.net -- - Tim PHP Galaxy: http://www.phpgalaxy.com/ The LavaWarp Engine: http://www.phpgalaxy.com/engine.php3 BitSearch: http://www.phpgalaxy.com/bitsearch.php3 MetaWarp: http://www.phpgalaxy.com/metawarp.php3 PhotoRate: http://www.phpgalaxy.com/photorate.php3 Earn $10 per order selling these scripts on your site! http://www.phpgalaxy.com/aff/
