As Mr. Loff mentioned, you can do all sorts of neat tricks with dns on an intranet that you cannot do for the internet. Make Intrantet a top level domain and go from there. The quintessential guide for DNS is here: http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/DNS-HOWTO.html Of course, this tutorial assumes that you are using the BIND DNS server on a *nix box. If you are not, well you probably should be. If your school uses all windows boxes, you can still download and install BIND for windows. There is even an Alpha version for windows if you happen to have a Compaq server.
