Trying to get FreeTDS to work

I'm getting the following error
Warning: Sybase: A link to the server could not be established in
/home/websites/wac/mssql/mssql1.php on line 15
I think its the interfaces file for FreeTDS, below is what I've got
regent1
query tcp ether 158.234.4.24 4000
master tcp ether 158.234.4.24 4000
And this is the connection
$connection = mssql_connect("regent1", "sa", "");
Can anyone point me in the right direction
