Lemme think ...
1. Have you tried storing the image from the PSQL command line and does it work?
If so have you retrieved it and is the retrieval time acceptable?
2. You might be hitting PGSQL's limit on row size - I thought it was about 8k
bytes.
3. Storing an image in a file, although good in theory, often doesn't work well
in practice. Retrieval tends to be slow.
4. Common practice is to store the image in directory and store the location of
the image in the database.
