I can't attest to seeing this myself, but I've heard -lots- of rumors
about how mysql tends to start to corrupt / lose data after a table gets
to a million records or so. Hopefully now that MySQL has some funding,
these issues as well as COMMIT/ROLLBACK functionality will be resolved.
You might want to email one of their mailing lists and check with them.
Let me know if you find out anything; I dislike quoting rumors.
Luckily the project I'm working is more small-scale so this hasn't been
an issue for me so far...
I know PostGreSQL isn't quite as well known as MySQL, but from what I've
heard from people using it it tends to scale better than MySQL.
