Hey Aaron,
If at all possible, your life will be *much* easier if you can standardize
to one browser platform. Compatibility issues between browsers can make
debugging client-side code a real nightmare. Of the two major platforms, I
personally think IE is the stronger (as much as it pains me to say that 8),
but your mileage may vary.
Beyond that, I think you can do some fairly complex stuff with a
browser-based GUI. You are limited to some extent by the technology and
widgets that are supported, but for standard stuff I think almost anything
can be made to work.
