I had the same problem where HTTPD would die immediately
after starting when using PHP as a DSO.
For me, I had to explicitly set:
"--prefix=/my/dir"
"--exec-prefix=/my/dir"
when configuring PHP.
The only other difference in our configuration is that we
didn't need mysql configured so it was set to:
"--with-mysql=no"
Also, did you copy the "php.ini-dist" file to
your "--with-config-file-path=" dir. and rename it "php.ini"?
Hope this helps,

I've been having trouble installing php4.0.1pl2 as a DSO with Oracle support
under Redhat 6.2. Here the config string:
./configure --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs --enable-track-vars --with-config-fi
le-path=/etc/httpd/conf/ --with-mysql --with-oci8
I don't get any complaints during compilation, but httpd dies immeadiately
when starting.
Any thoughts?
Thanx,
-Daniel
