using "ibase_connect" with roles with PHP 4.0.2 / Apache

Hi,
I encountered the following problem:
A call to
$db = ibase_connect( "$host:$database", "$dbuser", "$dbpasswd",
"$dbcharset", "", $dbslqdlct, "$dbrole");
let's an Apache instance "silently" die (segmentation fault).
If I use
$db = ibase_connect( "$host:$database", "$dbuser", "$dbpasswd");
everything is fine.
Does PHP 4.0.x have problems supplying roles to ibase_connect? Did any of
you experiences this?
