What about PostgreSQL?? It is very powerful, PHP functions for managing it
are very good, it is fast, reliable and easy to use.
I will recommend PostgreSQL without doubt... I am using it right now (in
conjunction with PHP) to develop an account application for all the offices
of the corporation in different country... it is VERY good!
