multidimensional arrays

hi,
let's say you have a two multidimensional array. my problem is that i create
these arrays dynamicly, and the size of the matrix the array represents
varies. once it's 3x5, and the next time it could be 24x2.
i need to iterate over all the fields of the matrix. how do i get the the
type of the matrix?
i'd use the "count()" function with a one dimensional array, but don't know
if there's a similar function for multidimensional arrays.
