Hi, You can also use OpenLink's Multi-Tier ODBC driver if you like. There is a HOWTO for compiling ODBC into PHP at http://www.iodbc.org It works pretty well with SQLServer 7, or rather we've fixed a bug with it and will be releasing the 4.0 version of our drivers with the patch.
