Oops. I put a period at the end of password, and missed the dash before the p in the second example! Let me try again: path/mysql databasename -u username -ppassword So on my system it looks like: /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql mydb_com -u myusername -pmypassword Sorry about that. Then you should be able to type in at the prompt: path/mysql databasename -u username -ppassword. So on my system it looks like: /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql mydb_com -u myusername pmypassword there is no space between the -p and the password itself, but there IS one between the -u and the username. Maybe the mysql list would have been a better place, but there are people on this list who know mysql stuff, so don't be afraid to ask.
