Works for me.

It's your script copied+pasted. The server is
Apache/1.3.9 (Unix) PHP/3.0.13-dev
PHP is compiled as a static module, but that shouldn't make
any difference with Apache 1.3.9. I've also tried it on
another box which is running
Apache/1.3.9 (Unix) PHP/3.0.13-dev mod_ssl/2.4.1 OpenSSL/0.9.4
The problem doesn't originate in PHP - you might look into
upgrading one or more components of your OS.
