I am using the latest CVS (Sept. 14, 1999) on pII/300, RedHat 6.0 and I am
having trouble getting PHP to compile "out of the box" with XML. I am using
the Apache 1.3.9 sources and here is what I get...
./configure --with-apache=/usr/local/apps/apache_1.3.9 --with-xml --with-mys
ql --with-gd --with-freetype
and I get
checking for XML support... yes (static)
checking for main in -lexpat... no
checking for main in -lxmltok... no
configure: error: No expart library found for the xml module
^^^^^^ (this typo should be fixed)
Shouldn't it be using the expat-lite from apache? I have tried
using --with-xml=/usr/local/apps/apache_1.3.9/src/lib/expat-lite but that
will not work w/o expat-lite already compiled, so I installed expat in my
/usr/include/xml directory, then when I am running configure on apache I get
the following under 1.3.9:
./configure --activate-module=src/modules/php/libphp4.a
Configuring for Apache, Version 1.3.9
+ using installation path layout: Apache (config.layout)
+ activated php4 module (modules/php4/libphp4.a)
Creating Makefile
Creating Configuration.apaci in src
Creating Makefile in src
Creating Makefile in src
+ configured for Linux platform
+ setting C compiler to gcc -E
+ checking for system header files
+ adding selected modules
o php4_module uses ConfigStart/End
+ checking sizeof various data types
+ doing sanity check on compiler and options
** A test compilation with your Makefile configuration
** failed. This is most likely because your C compiler
** is not ANSI. Apache requires an ANSI C Compiler, such
** as gcc. The above error message from your compiler
** will also provide a clue.
Aborting!
but there is no error message... but when I try the same w/ 1.3.6 I get a
can't find -lexpat error. If I add the path to expat (/usr/include/xml)
into the src/Configuration.apaci file then it will compile, but I don't know
if it's using the expat-lite or expat. Has anyone else seen this? if so
what do you recommend?
