I haven't mixed them up, I understand the difference. cvsweb is a Perl CGI
that does the following:
print "Content-type: text/plain\n";
print "Content-encoding: x-gzip\n\n";
open(GZIP, "|gzip -1 -c"); # need lightweight compression
print GZIP <RCS>;
close(GZIP);
where RCS is a pipe from a "co -p" command.
It works fine for Netscape but IE shows the raw compressed data as text.
Maybe the x- in x-gzip confuses IE, it sends Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate
