PHP Bug Type: Compile Failure
Bug description: problems with gd-1.7 : bug + one_solution_that_works
1. gd-1.7 has removed support for GIF due to the patent problems.
This causes php 4.0b3 build to fail with "unresolved symbols"
for *Gif functions.
2. This also affects the build for apache 1.3.9 because you now
have to build php4 with png support.
Solution for 1: I changed all "*Gif" functions to "*Png" in
ext/gd/gd.c and ext/gd/gdtiff.c:
perl -pi -e 's/Gif/Png/g' ext/gd/*.[ch]
Also, gdImageColorResolve function is no longer required in
ext/gd/*.c
2. I solved it by declaring "EXTRA_LIBS=-lpng" in the apache
Configuration.tmpl file. Otherwise, apache doesn't build with
modphp4 (error: lots of "undefined" functions png_* during compile)
