Sounds suspiciously like a problem I've experienced on NT. Anton Kalmykov
has done some work on tracking down the problem. See bug #3041.
The effects of the bug are different, probably because of platform
differences, but fundamentally, accepting a post of long data is corrupting
memory somewhere.

PS Re. Dominic's comment, On NT I have the problem even if the form mime
type is multipart/form-data, but as in the bug report, the same script works
perfectly on php 3
