PHP Bug Type: Installation problem
Bug description: Can't seem to build php4 as DSO with RPM version of Apache
This is for PHP4 beta 4 pl 1 (no pull-down for "PHP version" above). I have
successfully compiled and installed PHP 3 as a DSO on several Red Hat systems
with Apache and Apache-devel from RPM. if I try to do this using PHP 4, I am
unsuccessful.
I tried: ./configure --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs --with-mysql
After configure, I do a "make" and "make install". Only a libphp4.a file is
built, however, and it is *not* installed -- it is located in /usr/local/src/
php4b4pl1/lib and I would have to move it by hand to use it.
I checked the Makefile, and it seems to be missing any reference for creating
a .so file. In addition, it might be missing "install-modules" reference (it
seems to specify install-local and install-modules, and only install-local is
defined in the Makefile. Comparing with the Makefile from PHP3, it is obvious
that some reference to create the .so file would be necessary.
I had no choice but to rpm -e apache apache-devel, download and compile Apache
from source, and then proceed with PHP4 compilation. Then all is well.
Could the developers please get PHP4 installation with stock apache RPM's as
painless as it is with PHP3?
Thanks...
