| Hello. I'm wondering if PHP lets you do the following: | | Let's say one wrote a custom API to a database as an Apache shared object. | Through mod_perl, one can write an abstraction layer, most likely as a | package, to this API so that it can be accessed via CGI, embperl, or Mason. | | Is this supported in PHP, or am I just smoking crack? | No, you can't make modules as in mod_perl, and the scripts do NOT have access to the internal functions of Apache, they cannot return statuses (only the actual mod_php module can do that). PHP is a scripting language with multiple database support and a stack of other functions for easy programming. Its not meant to be for the development of modules, but it may allow it. The Zend family of products will do everything for you, caching, optimizing, compiling etc. Enjoy! Faisal
