Operating system: Linux 2.2.14
PHP version: 4.0.0 Release
PHP Bug Type: Misbehaving function
Bug description: local configuration setting for short_open_tag not respected
Local settings for "short_open_tag", through .htaccess or Apache server config files, are
always overridden by the setting in php.ini.
phpinfo() shows that the local value is different from the master value, but it doesn't take
effect in reality.
- php.ini:
short_open_tag = On
- .htaccess:
php_flag short_open_tag off
- phpinfo():
Directive Local value Master value
short_open_tag Off On
- the script:
<?php print "<P>Long tags parsed"; ?>
<? print "<P>Short tags parsed"; ?>
- produces:
Long tags parsed
Short tags parsed
This is very annoying, especially if you are using PHP at your ISP, the ISP has
"short_open_tag" set to "On" in php.ini, and you need to disable it locally to
be able to work with XML.
