Please try 4.0.0 release.
Also, note that if you have any other Apache module loaded that uses MySQL (e.g., mod_auth_mysql or
PHP 3.0) - you must provide PHP 4.0's configure the --with-mysql=/path/to/mysql switch, and not
rely on the built-in MySQL support it has. It appears that that's the source of the problem
you were having.
