I don't think it would hurt the performance if you make it an option that
would be off by default (0 = no recursion testing), don't you think? PHP
already has so many useful debugging options, that this would be another
one that would be more helpful than the clueless segmentation faults that
programmers may face if their scripts go into infinite recursion by
accident.
