$ LDFLAGS='-L/usr/local/lib -R/usr/local/lib' ./configure
/usr/local/lib is required for the shared z and png libs, and gcc doesn't
pick it up automatically.
After compiling, ldd .libs/libphp4.so says that it cannot find these
libs.
This is possibly a libtool problem.

By "bad" I mean: should not be used. The ucblib stuff is for SunOS4
compatibility, and I certainly don't want this for new apps.

I would gladly do that, but I cannot figure out where to start.
While being quite proficient with autoconf/automake, I don't know
much about libtool, which I presume to be at fault here.
Btw, I have received a number of request by other to fwd replies,
because they have the same problem(s).
