Yes, it does partly defeat the point of mirroring, but the failover
is turned off by default. I released the change "early" to satisfy
a request by another mirror-maintainer from this list. The patch is
a work in progress, and caching is certainly something that is I'm
looking at doing ASAP.
I'll post here when it's finished, tested, and committed.
