I've seen a lot of problems posted in the mailing-list regarding Apache
1.3.x + PHP + some database package, and it doesn't seem to matter which
one. Here is the problem I encountered, and what it took to resolve it.
I hope this can shed some light on the situation if it is indeed
currently unsolved as it appears to be.
I found that when trying to build Apache with PHP support on a RedHat
5.1 system, the file src/main/test_char.h in the Apache source tree is
incorrently created as an empty file. This causes the build process to
fail in a blinding fury of util.c error messages. I manages to fix this
by removing test_char.h running "make test_char.h" manually, changing
back into the Apache source root and re-running "make"
This problem does NOT exist when one doesn't attempt to compile in PHP
module support.
Here are the versions of the various software involved, and my configure
lines.
mysql-3.22.11-beta
./configure --prefix=/opt/mysql --enable-assembler --without-perl
php-3.0.5
./configure --with-apache=/home/eroper/build/apache_1.3.3
--with-mysql=/opt/mysql --without-debug
apache_1.3.3
./configure --prefix=/opt/apache
--enable-module=src/modules/php3/libphp3.a
